American Roads - The Western US

To be honest, my love of photography is the reason I travel.  To see new far off places, snapping photos and images of landscapes, animals, people, signs, places, things, stuff, and more... that's what gets me going.

When I point myself in any general direction, I choose to travel by car as much as possible, taking the side roads and seeing some unique destinations.

Recently looking through my photo library, I noticed a small trend that appeared.  It seems that the road that have brought me to my destinations, have ended up being the subject itself.

The American Road.

Dirt Roads, Paved roads, winding roads, roads over bridges, roads through the desert, roads into the city.  Roads are the infrastructure of our nation.  They lead us anywhere we need to go, as well as some unexpected places in between.

Since I live along the Rocky Mountains, most of my road trips have been throughout the Western United States.  Along the way, I have seen some pretty scenic and dynamic parts of the world, all the way down to the desolate.

Here is a collection of different types of roads of America, and some of what we've seen along the way.

WOW! Around every bend...

The world can be pretty amazing, but what I find really amazing, is that we as people have not only found the means to travel by car, but we have paved the way through some pretty tough terrains.  All so we can spread the knowledge of where we live and do what we love most, be at peace.

Donkey in the Road?

Sometimes you never know what you're going to come across.  Driving can provide a lot of easily planned trips and some unexpected encounters.

This day, a herd of Wild Jackasses blocked the road demanding some kind of snack as payment for passage.  Black Hills, South Dakota.

Be a Photographer - Drive.

What's fun about hoping in the car with your camera is, you really can't make a wrong turn. Each road leads to, at least to you, new places and subjects to take your pictures.

Remember, being a good photographer isn't just about what you know - it's about being there!

Loved, loved, loved your photos! We have visited many of the same places out West and I am still writing hubs about them. Looks as though you have great photos of which you could do the same. Welcome to HubPages!
