North Sand Hills Photos and Video - Sand Dunes, CO

Get out your Paddle Tires and fix 'em up, then hit the Sand Dunes in the North Sand Hills Recreation area outside of walden, Colorado. About three hours from Denver, these sand dunes are recognized as some of the most elite in the region, and one of the few where you still can access with an off-road vehicle and tear it up on acres upon acres of sand hills, plains, and trails.

Buggies, ATVs, Motorcycles, Jeeps, and Modifieds have plenty of fun here, but driving under precautions at all times is the standard - Safety First on the Sand Hills. This way you can enjoy the soft sand between your toes before you wade across the frigid stream, or jump far and fast on your motorbike, or climb the hills with all you got and make a day of it.

Camping is permitted. The Sand Hills quickly change into forest tress with campsites a plenty, as well as some nearby mountain cabins, bed & breakfasts and ATV rentals.

Colorado is recognized for it's outdoor lifestyle and mountain recreation. The weather here is amazing, with over 320 days of sunshine a year, any given weekend is a perfect time to visit the North Sand Hills.

The most popular times of year to visit is during the Memorial Day weekend. Off Road enthusiasts from all over join and show off their toys. Racing up and down and all around the sand dunes is a day filled with fun.!

There's a few ways to get to the North Sand Hills Recreation area.

The Fastest: Go through Wyoming. North on I-25, through Ft. Collins, CO, up Highway 287, into Laramie and then down the 130/230 over the border North of Walden, CO and you're there.

Approximate Time: 2 & 1/2 hours

Or - From Ft. Collins, CO go into the mountains off Hwy. 287, turn at Ted's Place, up the amazingly beautiful winding roads of the Poudre Canyon. Grab a bite to eat 2 hours later in Walden, CO and then head to the sand hills for a day of recreation.
