STAR WARS FIGURES HISTORY

Since 1977, Jedi collector's from around the world have been intrigued by the Star Wars Movie Saga as well as the vehicles, playsets and figures that were released in a series of toys after a highly successful run at movie making history. If only we knew then what we know now, how the value of the Star Wars characters would increase in value like they have.

There have been a number of series of figures and vehicles released after each movie. The movies created a long line of licensed products portraying the film's characters, places, and more. Star Wars characters have been abused, lost, sold at garage sales, or simply forgotten, but for those who love these little representations from some of the greatest movies of all time, here's a little background history and a price guide to help you value your Star Wars Figures, vehicles and Playsets collection:

KENNER

The toy company, Kenner Toys, started making Star Wars figures in 1977 after getting their exclusive license from the Hollywood Producers and Production Studio. Lucasfilms LTD. wanted to see the movies play out in the minds of the kid's who loved them.

They made these figures smaller than most that were released at the time, measuring 3.75 inches. Keeping costs down, Kenner made it affordable to get a piece of the movie collection.

Christmas 1977 was history in itself for Kenner as they were unable to release the Star Wars figures line on time. To make up for it, they released 'Early Bird' Certificates letting collectors pick up the first four characters when they became available.

After the line was fully released, Kenner enjoyed great success through the original Star Wars Trilogy: Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi found Kenner producing millions upon millions of these small figures.

HASBRO

In 1995, Hasbro toys took over the manufacturing of Star Wars Play sets after purchasing and acquiring Kenner toys. To keep new collector's happy, the 'Power of the Force' (POTF) series of Star Wars figures was introduced.

Keeping up with modern trends in Sci-Fi, kid's shows, and modern cartoon, these new figures were built with more muscle and body tone than the originals.

Through the continued release of the Prequel trilogy from 1999 - 2005: Episode 1, Episode 2, and Episode 3 delivered another high volume output for Star Wars characters and vehicles to the public.

TODAY

Star Wars figures are still being produced by the millions, covering every movie - even into the animated series of the Clone Wars. Although the new Star Wars figures don't hold the same value as the originals, holding on to a few of them may prove to be a smart investment as time goes by.
